Definição de "At the zoo I saw a piece of toast in a cage. The sign on the cage said: BREAD IN CAPTIVITY." (Essa piada tem algum trocadilho com algo em inglês ou apenas não tem graça mesmo???) (is there a double meaning to this joke or is it just plain boring?) lol It's a pun. "bread" and "bred" sound exactly the same. Zoo animals are sometimes caught or rescued from the wild, but sometimes they are "bred in captivity" and raised in zoos from birth. But this is taking a literal piece of "bread" (which sounds like "bred") and putting it in a cage (captivity) and putting a sign on it (just like a lot of zoo exhibits have) which explains that it is "bread in captivity" which sounds the same as the serious signs that actual zoo exhibits have which say "bred in captivity". So it's unexpectedly literal, and also silly/absurd to look at, but also a parody of what is normally said on a zoo exhibit. So it's a play on words. |nvm i deleted my old comment, ‘bread in captivity’ is a pun based of ‘bred in captivity’ meaning when an animal never experiences the outside world
