Evil Dead Rise benefits from a refreshing new setting and a more intimate, familial storyline that ups the stakes and the horrific desperation felt in its characters. The acting was great all around, but Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherland were exceptional. The film very much felt like a brilliant blend between new-age art house horror and an absurd, chaotic, ‘80s splatterfest. A few of the CGI moments were spotty, but completely overshadowed by the masses of great practical gore effects. The film is a fantastic addition to the Evil Dead franchise, I had a blast with it, and totally recommend checking it out.
