Susan Hill is an author, publisher and reviewer. Her 53 novels include I’m the King of the Castle, winner of the W Somerset Maugham Award; The Albatross, winner of the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize and The Bird of Night which was shortlisted for the 1972 Booker Prize and won the Whitbread Award for Fiction. The stage adaptation of her ghost story The Woman in Black has been running in London’s West End for 21 years and the film of the same book will be premiered in 2012. She founded Long Barn Books in 1997 and was a judge of the Booker Prize in 1975. (c) Janie Airey
