As the opponent of Danish Jonas Bjerre, the Brazilian Alexandr Fier will defend today his solo leadership of the Elite group in the international chess tournament Capablanca in Memoriam, based at the Habana Libre hotel. Fier got his third straight win at the expense of Venezuelan-born Spaniard Eduardo Iturrizaga in 40 moves of an English opening. He will now move the white pieces against Bjerre, his closest pursuer with 2.5 units after beating Cuban Elier Miranda the day before.
